Yesterday’s Sunday got us into the Victoria Falls fan club and taught us a lesson in fending off curious bamboos along the way. Today we want to explore art and culture.
There are so many artists who would like to sell something to us – a painting, a sculpture or a wooden animal. It’s not easy to walk past the stalls in the “Elephant Walk” centre and resist all the offers. I am always fascinated by recycled works of art, such as the elephant made from bottle caps.
Close to “Elephant Walk” one can also find sculptor Taurai Bvukuru’s open-air workshop. Taurai creates Shona sculptures, mostly from granite, but also from other stone. He already showed talent as a child and was eager to learn from his relatives, who also worked as sculptors.
Shona sculptures can also be found in the park of the legendary 5-star Victoria Falls Hotel. From its terrace, there is a fabulous view of the railway bridge across the Zambezi Gorge. Here we stylishly have tea in the afternoon.
