For some of us it is time to return to Europe after 10 days in our group. The rest of us will stay together for another 7 days and experience more of Zambia.
Something is still missing here. We haven’t yet marvelled at the Victoria Falls on the Zambian side. This part supposedly is even more beautiful than the one in Zimbabwe! But at the beginning of December, after the end of the dry season, the Falls of the Republic of Zambia don’t look so lush … and that has to do with a hydroelectric power station, among other things.
But now there is another sensation to experience. Elvis offers guided tours of a special kind and takes his groups almost right to the edge where the Zambezi rushes into the gorge. When we met a few months ago, he assured me that it was not dangerous. Nevertheless, I hold my breath from time to time as we form the “African Chain”, holding hands and simultaneously moving parallel to the edge. With our feet in the mighty Zambezi!
When we have enthusiastically returned to the riverbank, Elvis surprises us with an invitation to his house in Mukuni Village. If we’re lucky, he says, we might even see Chief Mukuni.
