Our plane has meanwhile landed safely in Zimbabwe, at Victoria Falls International Airport to be precise.


On arrival, we are a bit sleepy, but full of anticipation for what is to come. The weather makes it easy for us. It’s hot, but it’s mostly dry heat. Officially, we are in the rainy season, but we are only experiencing the pleasant side of it: The sprouting vegetation and lush green.

We are driven from the airport to our accommodation in a 12-seater. Enchantingly, the driver stops at the side of the road during the half-hour drive to show us the first signs of the natural wonder that is Victoria Falls: The water spray ahead of us on the horizon. It rises up to 300 m from the falls and can still be seen up to 30 km away.

INSIKA Lodge, our first accommodation, is located 4 km outside the small town of Victoria Falls (population approx. 25,000) and has only been in operation for about a year. We receive a very friendly welcome and are taken to our rooms without delay. They are spacious and very tastefully furnished, especially the so-called Signature Rooms. Let’s get under the showers …
