Batch Solutions

After yesterday’s transition between saying goodbye to the group and embarking on new adventures, I set off early today – with Kabwe as my destination. It’s probably only a day trip, but maybe it will turn into something more. I carry quite a bit of luggage with me.

Kabwe is 2 to 2 ½ hours away from Lusaka on the very busy road into the Copperbelt, Zambia’s original mining centre. Everyone is driving here: cars, trucks, minibuses and large coaches. All on a single-lane, often bumpy road.

At first glance, the town has no tourist attractions. But here in 1921, the almost complete skull of a human being at least 125,000 years old was found in a lead mine. Exciting for paleontologists: a new human species had been discovered!

Unfortunately, I can’t see the skull with my own eyes as it was brought to London at the time. But as a small investor, today I get to see the honey factory where the wild honey from WildHive & Co. is processed. 20,000 beehives and 4,000 beekeepers were involved in this in 2022.

Later, under the trees, I meet a group of kids who are already on Christmas vacation. They receive  support and training by the NGO Twafweni. The meetings are about reading, writing and maths. But also about self-confidence.
